INTRO TO ALPINE SKI RACING
In our popular 8-week program young skiers are introduced to the fundamentals of racing and gate training, and receive in-depth instruction on improving overall skiing technique. Participants are entered into the nationwide NASTAR system and will compete in two NASTAR races to gain experience in competition.
Training takes place on Mount Southington’s Thunderbolt trail where we have the latest race training and timing equipment. Boys and girls in groups of approximately six students of similar ability train together with a dedicated coach in a fun and supportive environment. Our program focuses on the Giant Slalom course set up, where gates are further apart than traditional Slalom.
To join the program, young athletes must be at ease on all trails and lifts. This program is perfect for children who may wish to join The Mount Southington Alpine Race Program, but cannot make the full commitment or are not sure if they are ready. Racing suits and racing skis are not needed. Helmets are required.
Our students make progress week by week, gaining confidence and skills and enjoying the camaraderie of peers on the slopes. Upon program completion, coaches provide an assessment of readiness to transition to the Mount Southington Alpine Race Program. Parents will also have an opportunity to meet the coaches and parents of the team to ask questions and learn more.
