Our Introduction to Ski Racing Program is an 8-week program for children ages 6-12 who wish to explore the competitive side of ski racing. It meets for 3 hours on Saturday mornings in January & February. This program focuses on developing racing skills, technical skills and improving overall ski techniques.
Young athletes must be at ease skiing all of our trails and be able to load, ride and unload the chairlift independently. Training takes place on Thunderbolt trail. During the 8-week program the student will be introduced to the fundamentals of ski racing and gate training. They will also be entered into the nationwide NASTAR system and will compete in two NASTAR races during the program.
This program focuses on racing instruction and is perfect for children who are thinking about joining our race team but cannot make the full commitment or are not sure if they are ready.
At the end of the program, the students will receive certificates of completion and the coaches will provide them with an assessment of readiness to transition to the Mount Southington Race Team. Parents will also be given the opportunity to meet with coaches and parents of the race team to ask questions and get feedback on any concerns they may have.
Training takes place January 7, 14, 21, 28, February 4, 11,18, & 25 from 8:30am – 11:30am.
The cost of the program is $650 and includes coaching and a lift ticket good until 5pm each Saturday that the program takes place.
