Ski Swap - 2009

This year's Ski Swap will be held the weekend of October 24th and 25th in the Red Barn Cafe.

Hours are: Saturday 10-4pm and Sunday 11-3pm. Items will be checked in on Wednesday, October 21st between Noon and 8pm. Items that were not sold can be picked up on Wednesday, October 28th between Noon and 8pm.

National Safety Week is January 16-23

Jan. 16 Helmet Decorating Contest.   Let's promote Helmet Safety by making them fun with decorations!   Bring your Helmet decorated from home or supplies will be able in the Alpine Eatery from 11 to 3pm.  Prizes will be awarded!!

National Safety Poster Contest. Color a poster in the Alpine Eatery from 11am to 3pm highlighting any of our safety principles.  Prizes will be awarded for Best Overall Safety Message and Best Design, grade categories K-2 and 3-5.  Winner will be announced at 3:30pm.  All entries will receive a complimentary hot chocolate.  Grand prize winner will have their poster submitted in the National NSAA poster contest. 

For our Best Design Category(K-2nd grade): 1st Prize: Jack Goodman age 6.  (3rd-4th grade) 1st Prize : Francine Moore age 8  and  2nd Prize: Lindsay Adams age 9.  

For our Best Safety Message Category (K-2nd grade)  1st Prize: Isabelle Lim age 6. (3rd-4th grade) 1st Prize: Garrity Kuester age 9 and 2nd Prize: Ben McLaughlin age 9.

Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge, February 13

The Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge is a free, fun race open to all ages and abilities.  Come out and enjoy free Mt Dew Samples.  Prizes will be awarded to all competitors.  Registration for all racers starts at 8am and the race runs from 11am to 1pm.  The awards ceremony starts at approximately 2pm.  Lots of raffles, prizes, and giveaways.  This is a family fun day so come out and join us!   Winners in each category advance to the finals at Loon Mountain in New Hampshire.

Valentine's Day Celebration and Couples Ski Race

All hot drinks are "Buy One Get One" for you and your sweetheart.  Enter to win "Complimentary Day Passes for Two" to Coco Key Water Resort in our sweetheart drawing which will be held every hour from 12-4pm.   A Face Painter from Amazing Art will be here from 12pm to 2pm in the Alpine Eatery.  The Couples Ski Race will begin at 2pm on the Thunderbolt Trail.   All competitors must have a signed Release Waiver turned in by 1pm the day of the event at the Alpine Eatery.  The   Waiver is located on our website under the Forms Tab, Events, Cardboard Box/Couples Ski Race Waiver.   All participants must have a valid lift ticket or a season pass.

Winter Carnival & 2nd Annual Cardboard Box Race

Saturday, February 20th will be a fun-filled day of events and activities for the entire family!!  A Face Painter from Amazing Art will be here from 12pm to 4pm in the Alpine Eatery.  Coco the Parrot Mascot from CocoKey Water Resort will be here from noon to 2:30pm.  Grand prize winner from the Cardboard Box Race will be judged on speed, design, quality of construction, and overall presentation (costumes) . Grand prize winner will be awarded $100 cash and a trophy.  Individual categories will be awarded "Complimentary Day Passes for Two" to Coco Key Water Resort for Fastest Sled and Most Unique Design.  All those who enter will receive a gift.  To be a part of our Cardboard Box race you must register your box by 2:30pm the day of the event with a signed Release Waiver located on our website under Forms, Events, Cardboard Box Race/Couples Ski Race.  Line up for box judging at 3:00pm and the race will start at approximately 3:30pm(slight time change) on the Thunderbolt Trail. 
Rain Date is scheduled for February 21, 2010.

Rules for all Cardboard Box Racers:
- All participants must have a valid lift ticket, season pass, or employee pass.
- You may participate individually or in teams, but the total weight carried in the box cannot to exceed 400 lbs.
- Every participant is required to sign a Release Waiver.  Those under 18 years of age must have a Parent/Guardian signature on the  Waiver Form.  Cardboard Box Race Waiver Forms are located on our website under the Forms tab.
- All signed registrations must be received by 2 pm on the day of event.  No late registrations will be accepted!!   Signed registrations can be returned to the Mt Southington Business Office before Feb. 20th or the Alpine Eatery on the day of the event.
- Helmets are strongly encouraged.
- All vehicles must be built solely of cardboard, tape, glue, paint, and paper.  No industrial pressed cardboard, plastic, wood, staples, ropes, twine, or wire will be permitted.
- The size of each vehicle is limited to: 7 ft. long, 5 ft. wide, and 7 ft. tall.
- Cardboard vehicles must have a front, rear, and at least two sides.
- No waxing or otherwise altering the bottom of your cardboard vehicle.
- To qualify for prizes, all participants must complete the race course in the vehicle.
- Each team is responsible for clearing and removing their vehicle from the Mt. Southington Ski Area.

Register in the Red Barn Cafeteria from 2:30pm to 3:30pm (snowboarders only).   Warmups are at 3:30, and the Rail Jam starts at 4pm.  The entry fee is $10.  A valid lift ticket, or season pass is required as well as a Drop Zone terrain park pass.  Helmets are required and participants under 18 years of age must have a signed parental waiver release.  The waiver can be found on our website under Forms, Rail Jam Waiver.  Prizes provided by participating shops. Registration in the Red Barn Cafeteria from 4pm to 5pm(skiers only).  5pm are the warmups, and the Jam starts at 5:30pm.  There is a $10 entry fee with a valid lift ticket or season pass as well as a Drop Zone terrain park pass is required.  Helmets are also required and participants under 18 years of age must have a signed Parental Waiver.  The waiver can be found on our website under Forms, Rail Jam Waiver.   Prizes will be provided by Salomon.
