Mount Southington Alpine Race Team
Prepare for racing in one of the finest racing programs in the East. The Mount Southington Race Team, a youth racing academy, gives a young skier the opportunity to enter the world of competitive alpine skiing. This Program is designed to be fun while helping young people develop physically, psychologically and socially. Staffed by our finest instructors, this Program is held at our prominent Jerry Donovan Alpine Training Center (JDATC).
The goal of our Race Team program is to prepare the young skier for future racing competition. Each skier is placed in a class based upon age where the emphasis is not race results but achieving performance skills. These skills are achieved by the skiers and coaches working closely together throughout the season. Our Alpine Race Team has two components. The Developmental Team and the Full Race Team.
Our Developmental Team is for the young racer 6 & 7 years of age who can ski all of our trails, ride a chairlift independently and wishes to learn the fundamentals of racing while making new friends. This team is the stepping stone to our full racing program at the Jerry Donovan Alpine Training Center Facility. Training begins with dryland training on November 19th and December 3rd from 10am-12pm. Once the area opens the Developmental Team trains every Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am-1:30pm on Thunderbolt trail.
Our Full Race Team is open to skiers 8 to 20 years of age who are at ease skiing all of our trails, are able to ride a chairlift independently and are serious about developing their skills. Training begins with dryland training on November 19th and December 3rd from 10am-12pm. Once the area opens, the racers hit Thunderbolt trail every Thursday from 6:30pm-9:00pm, and Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am-1:30pm when they are not participating in a race. Training continues through the beginning of March. Special training hours are provided during school breaks.
Race Team Membership includes an unrestricted season pass, training by our certified coaches, the Parents’ Association Fee and access to the terrain park with parent/guardian approval. Please register early to reserve your spot on the team.
